Company
The Oregon Translational Research and Drug Development Institute (OTRADI) is a non-profit science-driven signature research institute funded in part with Oregon State Lottery Funds administered by the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department. OTRADI provides a bridge in therapeutic development between the research scientist and the patient. OTRADI is a key component of the infrastructure, people and equipment required to support collaboration and accelerate the development of therapeutics and technologies arising from infectious disease research. More information on how OTRADI is working for Oregon can be found here.
Mission
The mission of this state-wide consortium is to stimulate discovery in therapeutic, vaccine, and diagnostic development by fostering cross-discipline and inter-institutional collaborations, as well as creating, maintaining and supporting core facilities for screening and developing lead compounds.
What we do
OTRADI's research and development program revolves around collaborations with Oregon university researchers and small businesses, who provide OTRADI with either proprietary synthetic or natural chemical compounds or novel experimental assays and techniques. Through these collaborations, OTRADI has formed the
Oregon Collection, a proprietary, locally-sourced chemical compound library consisting of natural and synthetic compounds, which are of interest to researchers, drug developers, and biopharmaceutical companies worldwide.
OTRADI leverages its core assets and capabilities:the Oregon Collectionnovel compound library, a state-of-the-art, high-throughput screening system capable of testing tens of thousands of compounds per day; cutting-edge, high-content screening and analysis for drug mechanism of action studies; and an arsenal of experimental assays designed to effectively screen compounds for activity against infectious diseases (e.g., malaria, West Nile virus, bacterial and fungal infections, etc.) to produce the value-added experimental data necessary to fuel drug discovery in Oregon.
OTRADI's capabilities span many steps in the drug development process including: novel assay development; rapid chemical screening to identifyhitcompounds with drug-like properties; analyzing the potency of a chemical using dose-response analysis; assessing a chemical´s specificity by analyzing its toxicity profile; identifying biological targets of chemicals via kinase-profiling; providing real-time kinetic imaging of live and fixed cells to visualize how chemicals affect specific cellular targets; mechanism of action studies, optimization of lead compounds; and establishing preclinical models.
OTRADI uses the unique and valuable experimental drug discovery assets to accelerate and optimize connections between university researchers and biopharmaceutical companies, with the end goal of increasing production of licensable technologies, including lead compounds, vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics. More information on how OTRADI is accelerating drug discovery in Oregon can be found here.
