Staccato Automated System
OTRADI uses an automated robotic assay platform from Caliper Life Sciences. The setup contains a liquid handling deck, a TwisterII robotic arm, a Synergy 4 microplate reader, and an incubator. To learn more about the capabilities of our Staccato system, read below.

Liquid handling robotic workstation: Sciclone ALH3000
- This highly flexible, automated liquid handling workstation for drug discovery is configured to handle any automated, liquid-handling-application focus area including genomics, proteomics, immunoassays and cell-based assays. Designed for precision pipetting, it features a high-volume head (1-200uL) and low-volume head (nL) for liquid sampling in 24-, 48-, 96-, and 384-well microplates.
Liquid handler: Sciclone Z-8 liquid handler
- This liquid handler is designed for serial dilution, hit picking, control addition, sample transfer and other applications where there is individual and/or independently controlled access to specific single wells or groups of wells in 24-, 48-, 96- and 384-well microplates.
Microplate gripper: Sciclone ALH servo gripper
- The gripper stacks and un-stacks plates, unloads stackers and other plate-presentation devices, loads nested tips and de-lids plates.
Microplate and tip handler: HyperStak automated plate-and-tip-storage device and dispenser
- This handler stores and dispenses microplates and disposable tips for the Sciclone system.
Robotic microplate handler: Twister II microplate handler
- The heart of a completely-automated, integrated assay system, this robotic handler accesses the liquid-handling deck of the Sciclone, as well as the incubator, plate reader, and plate washer/dispenser.
Microplate washer/dispenser: BioTek 405 microplate washer/dispenser
- Dual-action manifold gives independent control of both dispense and aspirate manifolds for precise overfill washing and overflow protection in both 96- and 384-well microplates.
Barcode reader: Microscan MS-3
- Embedded compact barcode scanner for microplate database management.
Microplate incubator: Cytomat 2C incubator
- Robot-accessible, 42-microplate position incubator, featuring temperature, humidity, and gaseous atmosphere control for all automated, cell-based and non-cell-based assay systems.
Microplate reader: BioTek Synergy 4 microplate reader
- As the most advanced multidetection microplate reader, this model is designed to address the widest range of microplate-based applications. Its filter-based system is designed to allow detection of fluorescence (mercury lamp and laser), luminescence and optical density.
Software and control: Caliper iLinkPro
- Caliper Life Sciences' system integration software for assay development, method-building, assay-editing and scheduling, is used to create automated assays, track materials, manage data and run complete systems.
Training: Certified training at Caliper Training Center in Boston, Mass.
- OTRADI scientists have received certified training on the Caliper Staccato Automated System and associated software and database management at the Caliper Life Sciences headquarters.
