SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: The Scientist-CEO Communication Trap: Why Brilliant Founders Create the Exact Problem That Stalls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Virtual Lunch & Learn presented by Dr. Yoanne Clovis as she explores how PhD and MD founders can adapt their communication approach as their companies grow. \nAs the scientist who discovered and developed your product\, you are the best person in the company to explain the science to other experts in your field. You can close the first round and convince the first hires\, usually also scientists. But scientists often fall into the expert trap\, when your deep expertise prevents them from connecting with non-experts\, like angel investors and non-scientist executives who could become your next hire or your next partner. What made you credible in the lab becomes a liability as the team grows. \nThis session looks at the specific pattern PhD and MD founders fall into somewhere between fifteen people and sixty: the founder keeps leaning on the science and insists on leading the communications alone\, long after the company has outgrown that approach. Dr. Clovis will walk through when things tend to change structurally\, why “I’ll handle it myself” stops working\, and what early-stage and pre-Phase II leaders can put in place now to maintain scientific integrity while growing the company. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Patent Pitfalls: The Early Mistakes That Come Back to Bite You
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Virtual Lunch & Learn presented by Oliver Richards and Madelyn McCormick as they explore the common patent mistakes that early-stage companies make and how to avoid costly issues down the road. Most patent mistakes are cheap to avoid and expensive to fix. The trouble is that the fixing usually happens years later\, in a licensing dispute\, a due-diligence review\, or a courtroom\, long after the startup that made the mistake has moved on. This session looks at the most common patent errors early-stage companies make\, from public disclosures that quietly forfeit foreign rights\, to ownership and inventorship gaps\, to provisional applications that don’t actually protect what the founders think they do. \nRather than a checklist of best practices\, the talk works backward from how these mistakes surface once a patent is challenged or enforced\, from the vantage point of a patent litigator who spends his days on the consequences. Attendees will leave with a practical sense of which early decisions actually matter\, which ones are recoverable\, and where a modest investment of attention up front saves a great deal of money and heartburn later. \nWatch HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Are You Lender Ready? Unlocking Capital with SBA Revolving Lines
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Virtual Lunch & Learn presented by Matthew Schmidt as he shares practical strategies for preparing your business for financing and making the most of SBA lending programs. This session will cover what lenders look for when evaluating loan applications\, as well as how SBA revolving lines of credit can help businesses manage cash flow\, support operations\, and position themselves for growth. \nSBA “Are You Lender Ready?” \nThe SBA’s “Are You Lender Ready?” presentations are designed to help entrepreneurs think like a bank and successfully navigate the commercial loan process. These sessions unpack critical underwriting criteria—such as credit scores\, cash flow\, and financial statements—while teaching owners how to build a compelling loan package. By learning how to present a solid business pitch and connecting directly with local lenders\, participants gain the practical tools needed to transition from seeking capital to securing it. \nUnlocking Capital: Maximizing the Power of SBA Revolving Lines \n“Unlocking Capital” focuses on utilizing flexible\, short-term financing—like CAP Lines and the Working Capital Pilot Program—to optimize day-to-day business operations. Unlike standard term loans\, these revolving lines allow owners to draw funds as needed to manage uneven cash flow\, cover seasonal inventory\, or fund payroll. By leveraging accounts receivable or purchase orders\, businesses can secure higher advance rates and lower interest costs\, providing the sustained liquidity required to scale and fulfill larger contracts. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: From Half-Baked to Fully-Baked: Getting Your Product Right for Faster Market Uptake
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered if your product truly has the upside you believe\, or have sold to your investors? Given the high failure rate of new products\, it’s worth understanding what separates the winners from the losers\, and how to better identify which path you’re on. \n“From Half-Baked to Fully-Baked: Getting Your Product Right for Faster Market Uptake” is designed for entrepreneurs who run lean and can’t afford a new product failure. The talk is based on case studies from local Inc. 5000 companies that\, while highly capable\, made costly product missteps due to overconfidence and hubris. \nJoin Kevin Renner\, a business coach\, go-to-market strategy advisor\, and fractional CMO\, who helps emerging companies accelerate growth by getting their products right and their stories straight. \nWatch HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Formation and Licensing: What Founders Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Launching a life sciences company requires more than a breakthrough idea—it demands building the right corporate foundation from day one. In this Virtual Lunch & Learn session\, aspiring founders will gain practical\, actionable insight into two core pillars of early‑stage biotech company formation. First\, we will cover why corporate formation matters and what founders need to get right early on: choosing the appropriate corporate structure\, properly issuing founder equity\, creating and maintaining a clean cap table\, establishing a functional board of directors\, and preparing for future financing. These elements are essential for attracting investors\, protecting founder ownership\, and avoiding preventable legal and operational pitfalls. \nSecond\, attendees will learn what to expect when in‑licensing foundational intellectual property from a university\, academic medical center\, or research institution—the critical step that often enables company formation in life sciences. We will demystify the tech transfer process\, discuss typical economic and diligence terms\, and highlight common negotiation and operational considerations so founders understand both the opportunities and obligations that come with licensing core IP. Whether you are preparing to launch your first venture or exploring commercial pathways for your science\, this session will provide clarity\, context\, and confidence as you take the next steps on your entrepreneurial journey. \nVideo recording HERE \n

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: AI-Powered Clinical Trials: De-Risking Enrollment\, Timelines\, and Investor Confidence for Biotech Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Clinical trials are the single biggest operational and financial risk for small to mid-size biotech companies. Fifty to eighty percent of trials miss enrollment targets\, unplanned amendments cost $150-300K each\, and database lock delays push readouts back months. For companies with just 18-24 months of runway\, every setback erodes investor confidence\, delays financing\, and gives faster rivals the edge. This session tackles the five pain points keeping CEOs awake: on-time First Patient In\, fewer costly amendments\, better enrollment and retention\, faster database lock\, and predictable execution that protects investor confidence. \nLearn how AI\, already delivering measurable results for IQVIA\, ICON\, and Syneos Health\, can cut timelines 20%\, boost recruitment 26%\, and preserve $15-22M of runway per Phase 2b/3 trial. Walk away with a practical roadmap from targeted pilots to portfolio-wide adoption that turns clinical trial risk into a competitive advantage. Join us and give your next trial the advantage it deserves. \nRegister for free HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch and Learn: Patents are Easy- Selling is Hard
DESCRIPTION:Too often\, patents are obtained in a vacuum\, without first fully considering current and future market needs and conditions. This leads to patents that don’t adequately cover what you sell\, patent portfolios with serious gaps\, or patents that don’t stop competitors. Nobody has a crystal ball\, but what is needed\, both before and during patent prosecution\, is a robust evaluation of the existing and probable future market conditions for the proposed technology and its application\, and necessary adjustments. \nToday’s discussion will be on how to you can go about evaluating the markets needs and potential for a particular technology and solution\, and how to plan the optimal patent strategy so that your patents will fully protect the invention and deter competitors from cutting into your success. We will go through exercises so you can gain insight into how to develop and apply systems and processes to ensure optimal results. \nRegister for this Virtual Event HERE

As the largest women-owned intellectual property IP firm in the US (based on the number of issued patents)\, McCoy Russell LLP has been closely watching the participation of women as inventors. SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Escaping the Government Pricing Pinch: From Gross to Net
DESCRIPTION:Register Now\nDescription \nOrganizations that thrive typically all have one thing in common: They understand what contributes\, and detracts\, from their bottom line. But mastering that task in a world of hidden government pricing is becoming a tightrope walk. That’s because government pricing programs can disproportionately impact sales channels—and paint a vastly different picture of a company’s financial status when comparing gross and net incomes. \nSmall biotech companies are frequently unaware of the impact government pricing channels will have on their developing financial models for new products. Government-regulated payers—such as Medicaid\, Medicare\, VA\, and DOD—often leave financial ambiguity in their wake\, as smart\, competent\, capable companies can’t keep up with the changing rules\, regulations and risks inherent in government pricing. They need a guide. \nJoin Jason Hardaway\, Managing Partner at CiiTA LLC\, as he discusses government-mandated price controls\, such as Medicaid\, 340B\, and VA—and the hidden impacts of each of these controls on your financial models. You’ll receive a roadmap on how to navigate their nuances and how to avoid their potentially devastating pitfalls. This knowledge\, and an understanding of these channels pre-launch\, will protect revenue and keep your investors happy.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Commercializing using Healthcare Claims Data
DESCRIPTION:Developing a robust go-to-market strategy requires understanding what healthcare providers are treating your target patient population and how those patients are being cared for today. Health insurance claims are submitted for every service and procedure delivered by doctors or hospitals who seek reimbursement. The claim contains a rich trove of data about the patient\, the diagnoses made\, the procedures performed and the providers involved in that care. \nDefinitive\, Truven\, DRG\, IMS (IQVIA)\, Blue Health\, Symphony and others all sell some combination of healthcare claims from clearinghouses (private payer claims) or the government (Medicare claims). Some have more coverage\, some less but you should anticipate spending $200k+ for a national cross-payer dataset in one therapeutic area. Before you write a check for a big purchase of claims-based datasets\, consider other sources of this valuable information that doesn’t blow your budget. \nKatie Vahle\, Chief Commercial Officer at Carevoyance\, will make a case for using claims data to inform your commercialization development strategy. We’ll review the high level reimbursement process to understand what data is available. You will leave the discussion with a framework for how to access and leverage this type of healthcare data in your go-to-market strategies – whether you are developing your first go-to-market strategy\, considering expanding into new markets / indications\, or simply trying to gain better insights into your customer and prospect base. \nREGISTER NOW \nAbout the Speaker \n \nKatie Vahle is the Chief Commercial Officer at Carevoyance\, a healthcare insights platform.
