SUMMARY:Badass Women Entrepreneurs PDX 2021
DESCRIPTION:Badass women who have turned their science into successful business ventures and the funding resources that have supported them and others. \nAbout this Event\nVertueLab and Women in Science PDX are coming together again for an annual event to spotlight badass women with badass science startups. The event convenes movers and shakers with different types of businesses\, different science backgrounds from low to high tech\, and non-traditional funding and support expertise. \nWe’ll dive into their journeys\, learn about their career path\, challenges\, triumphs\, and the resources they couldn’t do without. We want to inspire and empower you to innovate\, to brave the entrepreneur journey\, and connect you with other women science-badasses\, allies and local companies\, partners\, and mentors who can help launch an idea into the market. \nMore about the event …\nModerator Lindsey Murphy\, of Crazy Aunt Lindsey and founder of The Fab Lab\, will lead us through the exploration of how these badass women have taken their innovative ideas\, rooted in science and tech\, from just an idea to a fully implemented business. They’ll share their journey and insights; including when their business or tech idea originated\, their first steps to the formation of their company\, early funding pathways\, navigating partnership legalities\, valuable resources\, and reflections on challenges they have overcome. \nWe will then be joined by another panel of professionals who will elaborate on the funding pathways mentioned by our badass women entrepreneurs\, along with a tease into their very specific funding resource. \nThen stick around for SPEED NETWORKING. This will be several 3-minute breakouts where you’ll get the chance to connect with panelists and attendees. This session is introvert friendly – short and sweet. Long enough to make a connection\, but often not long enough to get into too much depth. But that’s where you can follow up for a virtual coffee or what not. We’ll make sure to collect contact info. \nThis event is open to EVERYONE\, regardless of gender identity. \nPlease contact tricia.clemans@vertuelab.org with any questions. \nPersons with disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations\, or who have questions about access\, please contact us. \nMore about the panelists…\nOur Badass Moderator\nLindsey Murphy\, The Fab Lab with Crazy Aunt Lindsey |Creator and host of The Fab Lab With Crazy Aunt Lindsey\, YouTube’s popular kids science web series that takes everyday science concepts and turns them into fabulous DIY projects children can do at home with their families. SUMMARY:TAO Event: Founders Talk Fundraising
DESCRIPTION:Join Technology Association of Oregon\, Himalaya Rao of the Black Founders Matter Fund\, and four startup founders for a panel discussion about different fundraising approaches. \nApril is Startup Month at TAO! Join us on April 15th at 11:00 AM as we continue to celebrate the local startup ecosystem with a panel of founders sharing their personal experiences of fundraising: Robert Buchanan of ADHERE GEAR\, Alisia Ford of Glory Skincare\, and Sam Ajayi and Stephen Ajayi of YearOne. \nWHAT YOU WILL LEARN\nDuring this discussion\, moderated by Himalaya Rao\, Managing Director of the Black Founders Matter Fund\, you’ll hear from the different startup founders about their methods of raising capital\, successes and lessons learned\, and where their businesses are headed next. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during a live Q&A at the end of the event. \nWHO SHOULD JOIN\nAnyone interested in gaining insight into various funding methods for entrepreneurs\, learning about innovative\, local start-ups and expanding your knowledge on equitable investing strategies. \nABOUT BLACK FOUNDERS MATTER\nMarceau Michel and Himalaya Rao started this fund after working in venture capital and seeing capital access disparities across communities of color. Marceau Michel was drawn to creating a fund after experiencing first-hand the difficulties of fundraising in a biased investment world. Himalaya Rao previously worked with seven different venture funds to source and screen investment opportunities. It was there that she realized even when there is a willingness to diversify the portfolio\, there are significant barriers to achieving that outcome.

SUMMARY:TAO Event: Profitability Through Stakeholder Alignment
DESCRIPTION:TAO Professional Development programming supports tech professionals by helping them to make connections\, develop expertise\, share best-practices\, and amplify their voices as members of the tech industry. \nA study of 200 companies authored by John Kotter and James Heskett in “Corporate Culture and Performance” showed that over an 11-year period\, stakeholder-balanced companies had four times the growth in sales and eight times the employment growth when compared to shareholder-focused companies. \nWith better access to information focused on a company’s values and actions\, today’s stakeholders are more sophisticated and savvy. Corporate responsibility is no longer just about philanthropy or publicity; it is a critical business tool. So as companies work to develop relationships\, inspire their stakeholders\, and create communities where everyone strives to give their best – they start to deliver to deliver a more profitable and sustainable business than companies whose focus is exclusively on the bottom line. \nTechnology Association of Oregon invites you to join our partners Willamette Valley Consultants and B2B CFO for a fireside chat with Xenium’s Vice President of People Development & Culture\, Suzi Wear on Wednesday\, March 31st from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. \nThe discussion will focus on how intangibles like trusting relationships with suppliers\, employee learning and growth\, reputation and goodwill are key drivers of corporate competitiveness and profitability.\n \n \nFEATURED SPEAKERS\n  \nGary Langenwalter\nPrincipal\nWillamette Valley Consultants \nLarry Strober\nPrincipal\nWillamette Valley Consultants \nFrank Dane\nPartner\nB2B CFO \nSuzi Wear\nVP of People Development & Culture\nXenium\n \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND \nThe topic will be most relevant to small and medium sized business owners and executives who need an intuitive\, workable plan for their company to achieve its goals\, and to align the actions and decisions of their teams to those goals.  \nABOUT WILLAMETTE VALLEY CONSULTANTS \nWillamette Valley Consultants are dedicated to improving the lives of their clients. They do that by understanding goals and removing barriers that get in client’s way. Their specialty is translating entrepreneurial passion and purpose into success. With offices in Portland and McMinnville\, they ask lots of questions to help entrepreneurs\, owners\, executives and managers get unstuck\, clarify options\, and see and hear the present and the future with a different and experienced set of eyes and ears. \nABOUT B2B CFO \nWe are “the alternative” to the typical professional services on an exit or buy transition. We use unique tools\, talents\, and processes to help the business owner(s) through the transition. SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn - From the Lab to the State House: Building Trust in Bioscience
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Lunch & Learn presentation on the importance of biomedical researchers building trust among the public and lawmakers. \nIn the absence of a fair portrayal of science\, it is too easy for policy makers to respond with burdensome regulatory requirements\, which ultimately may make the development of new science in the U.S. impossible. That’s why it’s important for you to learn how to educate and advocate for your business.  \nMissed it? Watch the recording of this program on our YouTube Channel. \nAbout the Speakers:\nKen Gordon\, Matt Markee\, and Jodi Hack \nKen Gordon has been the Executive Director of NWABR since 2014. Prior to his role at NWABR Ken was the Executive Director of the Potlatch Fund for five years\, and Trust Waikato for ten years. Ken is also an adjunct faculty member of Seattle University where he teaches Board Governance in an MFA program. \nMatt Markee has grown up in a life of politics and has worked with Markee & Associates\, Inc since 1997. Matt is head lobbyist and president of the company. He has great relationships with both Legislators and people within the Executive and Judicial branches.
