SUMMARY:OregonBio Class: Managing Multiple Projects (online)
DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nFew leaders have the luxury of focusing on a single project. Instead\, they must balance multiple simultaneous projects\, constantly making imperfect trade-offs between conflicting needs. This class looks at the personal skills you need to manage multiple projects. However\, there is only so much you can do on your own. Therefore\, this class also looks at the supporting organizational framework that enables a project-based organization to do many projects. It also includes a short introduction to portfolio management\, which is a technique for deciding which projects to invest in. \nBy the end of the course\, participants will be able to: \nExplain how portfolios\, programs\, and collections of loosely related projects are different.\nUnderstand the crucial impacts that organizational considerations such as governance\, stage gates\, and matrix responsibilities have on managing multiple projects.\nPlan projects in a multiple project environment\, including setting priorities\, sharing resources\, and coordination dependencies across projects.\nUse a dashboard to track and steer the execution of a collection of projects\nEscalate and resolve cross-project issues.\nSelect appropriate techniques to conquer the size and complexity of programs containing multiple projects.\nExplain how to construct an integrated portfolio of projects that is aligned with strategy\, is balanced\, and is feasible.\nCreate an action plan to apply the class materials to their unique work situation.\nCourse Outline: \nPersonal Productivity Techniques\nGood Organizational Support\nWorking Across a Matrix\nPower and Influence\nOrganizational Maturity\nStandard Methodologies\nProject Governance\nManagement Support\nBeing Effective on Every Project\nGood Project Hygiene\nConsistency and Repeatability\nFirefighting\nInter-Project Dependencies\nPlanning Resources Across Projects\nExecuting Multiple Projects\nTracking\nEscalation\, Prioritizing\, and Issue Resolution\nMultitasking\nLeveraging Lessons Learned\nIntroduction to Programs and Portfolios\nAction Planning\nWho Should Attend:\nAll previous Project Management: Foundations and Best Practices attendees. This class is designed for experienced product\, project\, and line managers who want to improve personal and organizational capabilities for managing multiple simultaneous projects. SUMMARY:LTHJ Global: Unlearning Ableism
DESCRIPTION:a·ble·ism\n/ˈābəˌlizəm/ \nnoun\ndiscrimination in favor of able-bodied or ‘neurotypical’ people.\nAbleism is the discrimination of and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on the belief that “typical” abilities are superior. \nAt its heart\, ableism is rooted in the assumption that disabled people require ‘fixing’ and defines people by their disability. \nLike racism and sexism\, ableism classifies entire groups of people as ‘less than\,’ and includes harmful stereotypes\, misconceptions\, and generalizations of people with disabilities. (Source: Access Living)\nHow have you engaged with yourself\, your colleagues and your community on unlearning the ableism inherent in so many of the systems and social norms we live within? \nWe’re coming together to explore: \n\nHow to better ally with with coworkers\, loved ones and children with a range of abilities and disabilities\nThe ways our panel have experienced and witnessed the burdens and opportunities in educating people on disability justice\nDesigning transportation that is accessible for everyone who relies on it\nHow neurodivergent experiences\, such as living on the autism spectrum or with ADHD\, inform people’s working styles\nHow unlearning internalized ableism brings you more personal freedom\nStories from our panel\, and more!\nJoin this free community event\, featuring our panel of advocates\, to explore how unpacking ableism benefits us all — and how you can be a part of it.\n\nRegister here. \nMEET THE PANEL \nNili Mathews (she/her) is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with over 25 years of experience working with people with disabilities. SUMMARY:TiE Oregon: Women's Open Mic Night
DESCRIPTION:Open Mic Night is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members. These meetings follow the same basic agenda of an investor meeting with three sections: the pitch\, Q&A\, and investor discussion & decision. \nWho facilitates Pitch Club? \nOpen Mic Night is led by Heather Samarin\, a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur. \nWhat to expect?\nPlease minimally prepare for a 5-minute pitch. If time permits each person could get up to 10 minutes so be prepared for that as well. This can include a slides/ppt that will be presented from your computer. Directly after pitching\, Q&A and discussion will take place. \nThose who attend pitch club will have a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition\, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members. \nDetails:\nWhen:  Tuesday\, June 14\, 2022\nTime:  5:30 – 8:30 PM\nWhere:  Zoom Meeting\nCost:   Free for members / $5 nonmembers \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Zapproved & Cinder - Gender Identity & Pronouns: One Non-Binary Story
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to join Zapproved & Cinder for a conversation with Liana Avendano on gender identity & pronouns. \nGender is a social construct and gender identity is deeply personal\, but what does that even mean? How can a person simultaneously feel all the genders at once and no gender at all? What is the difference between gender identity and gender expression? \nGender is a complex subject and once you start learning about it\, it feels like there is an endless amount of information to learn. That is because there is! As language evolves and our understanding evolves\, we uncover more ways for people to be able to express their gender in a way that matches their gender identity. \nDiscover the way Liana has experienced being non-binary\, what it took for them to get there\, and how they find joy in their expression. \nABOUT OUR SPEAKER\nI am a queer\, nonbinary\, neurodivergent\, Mexican\, child of immigrants. This is the lens through which I see the world and approach my work. I grew up in Los Angeles and have lived in Portland for the last 4 years. I have spent my adult life challenging the oppressive systems in place that create barriers for anyone who does not belong to the dominant culture. My goal is to create strategies that eliminate those barriers. I am unapologetically myself as I navigate patriarchy and capitalism and I will always advocate for those who experience the most persistent forms of oppression. I have worked in many industries including the service industry. I believe that this has provided a perspective that adds to my knowledge and skills in addressing inequities in the workplace. I will continue this work until there is no work left to be done. \nRegister here.
