SUMMARY:OEN PubTalk
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN) PubTalks\, presented by Columbia Bank\, are where Oregon’s entrepreneurial energy comes to life. \nEvery beloved CPG brand has a beginning\, but the real story starts long before it ever hits a shelf. \nOn Wednesday\, February 11th join OEN at Tender Loving Empire Headquarters for a panel conversation that dives into the messy\, creative\, and occasionally chaotic early chapters of building a CPG company. \nLocal founders will pull back the curtain on what it really took to get started and share how those early small-batch experiments evolved into a product line ready for prime time\, and how they navigated the intimidating leap from selling at farmers markets\, pop-ups\, or online to securing their first wholesale accounts. \nAttendees will walk away with an honest look at the earliest days of CPG entrepreneurship and practical lessons they can apply to their own path from “idea” to “in stores.” \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: AI-Powered Clinical Trials: De-Risking Enrollment\, Timelines\, and Investor Confidence for Biotech Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Clinical trials are the single biggest operational and financial risk for small to mid-size biotech companies. Fifty to eighty percent of trials miss enrollment targets\, unplanned amendments cost $150-300K each\, and database lock delays push readouts back months. For companies with just 18-24 months of runway\, every setback erodes investor confidence\, delays financing\, and gives faster rivals the edge. This session tackles the five pain points keeping CEOs awake: on-time First Patient In\, fewer costly amendments\, better enrollment and retention\, faster database lock\, and predictable execution that protects investor confidence. \nLearn how AI\, already delivering measurable results for IQVIA\, ICON\, and Syneos Health\, can cut timelines 20%\, boost recruitment 26%\, and preserve $15-22M of runway per Phase 2b/3 trial. Walk away with a practical roadmap from targeted pilots to portfolio-wide adoption that turns clinical trial risk into a competitive advantage. Join us and give your next trial the advantage it deserves. \nRegister for free HERE

SUMMARY:Startup Engine Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Todd Davey for an interactive workshop designed for early-stage\, innovation-driven founders. \n\n\n\n\nThis interactive session will be led by Todd Davey\, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School in Paris\, Adjunct Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney\, and visiting academic at the Technical University of Vienna and Washington University in St. Louis. Todd brings more than 20 years of consulting and commercialization experience\, including prior roles with Deloitte Australia’s Technology Commercialisation Group and as part of the executive team of one of Australia’s fastest-growing tech startups in the 2000s. He is an Associate Partner at the University-Industry Innovation Network\, author of Entrepreneurship at Universities\, and creator of the Startup Engine methodology and TechAdvance™\, a tool for evaluating technologies. \nThe workshop is designed for early-stage\, innovation-driven founders who are working to refine problem-solution fit\, clarify product-market fit\, and strengthen the foundations of a scalable venture. \nThis session is particularly well suited for traded-sector\, innovation-based companies with ambition to grow beyond a local market. Through a structured\, hands-on methodology\, you will pressure-test core assumptions in your business model and leave with clearer next steps. Attached are additional materials about the session. \nBecause the format is team-based\, we strongly encourage founders to attend with at least one additional team member\, such as a co-founder or key collaborator. Participating as a small team will maximize the session’s value\, but it is not required. \nSpace is limited to approximately 30 participants\, and advance registration is required. \nIf you have questions about fit or logistics\, feel free to reach out to mary@raincatalysts.org We hope you will consider joining us for this focused and high-impact morning. \nThis event is hosted by the Cascades West Innovation Hub (powered by RAIN) in partnership with the Linn-Benton SBDC.

SUMMARY:OHSU Innovates Foundations: Navigating Research to Impact
DESCRIPTION:Join us March 26 from 12 to 1p.m. for the next session of OHSU Innovates Foundations: Navigating Research to Impact\, a virtual seminar series designed to support researchers at all career stages. \nThis session\, “Intellectual Property 101: Key Concepts for Researchers\,” will provide practical guidance on using intellectual property to protect and advance research. Attendees will learn how different types of intellectual property work\, how protection is established and strategies for integrating IP into research and innovation plans. \nTo guide this discussion\, Janina Malone\, J.D.\, A.M.\, patent attorney at Lee & Hayes P.C.\, brings more than 20 years of experience helping clients across life science industries protect discoveries\, develop patent portfolios and navigate patentability and freedom-to-operate considerations. \nJoining her is Cole Brashaw\, who recently completed his neuroscience Ph.D. at OHSU. Cole used advanced genetic and molecular tools to study neurodegeneration and has published his work in Neurobiology of Disease. He is now pursuing opportunities as a patent specialist or patent agent with plans to sit for the patent bar later this year. Cole will share insights from a researcher’s perspective on leveraging IP to support innovation\, protect discoveries and advance early-career opportunities. \nThis free webinar is designed to help researchers at all levels understand how intellectual property can support their work\, guide strategic decisions and expand opportunities for innovation.

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Formation and Licensing: What Founders Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Launching a life sciences company requires more than a breakthrough idea—it demands building the right corporate foundation from day one. In this Virtual Lunch & Learn session\, aspiring founders will gain practical\, actionable insight into two core pillars of early‑stage biotech company formation. First\, we will cover why corporate formation matters and what founders need to get right early on: choosing the appropriate corporate structure\, properly issuing founder equity\, creating and maintaining a clean cap table\, establishing a functional board of directors\, and preparing for future financing. These elements are essential for attracting investors\, protecting founder ownership\, and avoiding preventable legal and operational pitfalls. \nSecond\, attendees will learn what to expect when in‑licensing foundational intellectual property from a university\, academic medical center\, or research institution—the critical step that often enables company formation in life sciences. We will demystify the tech transfer process\, discuss typical economic and diligence terms\, and highlight common negotiation and operational considerations so founders understand both the opportunities and obligations that come with licensing core IP. Whether you are preparing to launch your first venture or exploring commercial pathways for your science\, this session will provide clarity\, context\, and confidence as you take the next steps on your entrepreneurial journey. \nVideo recording HERE \n

SUMMARY:Medical Device Software Validation Meeting: FDA Regulations
DESCRIPTION:Overview: \nThis course will teach how to conduct a software validation program for medical devices containing software that will satisfy FDA requirements and produce a safe product. \nWe will explain the role of risk analysis in validation and how to use ISO62304 to establish risk level. How software requirements are used in validation will be described. We will discuss risk based testing and the amount of documentation\, based on risk\, to be submitted to the FDA\, following the 2023 Guidance. \nWhy you should Attend:\nTesting software to prove that it works and has no bugs is not sufficient to obtain FDA approval. There are additional analyses and tests that FDA feels are necessary to prevent user injuries. These requirements were developed after analysis by the FDA of many recalled medical devices. In this webinar you will learn the risk based testing that is required to produce a validated software product and the documentation to be submitted to the FDA. \nHandouts are software traceability matrix form\, validation plan template\, and validation report form. \nAreas Covered in the Session: \n\nSoftware validation is more than testing\nRequirements traceability\nRisk analysis\nUnit\, integration and system testing\nAlgorithm validation\nChallenges to the software\nConfiguration management\n\nRegister HERE
