SUMMARY:TAO: Making Work Work\, Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Work can be hard. It’s even harder when we are disconnected from the organization\, its values\, and our colleagues. And there’s no one size fits all solution. Leaders and stakeholders need to address the specific problems they are trying to solve with long term\, sustainable\, and scalable answers. \nIn partnership with the Portland Human Resource Management Association (PHRMA)\, we invite you to a 2 Part series on “Making Work Work.” In Part 1\, we will cover “Redefining Culture through Renewed Mission and Values” and “Effective Change Communication.” \nRedefining Culture through Renewed Mission and Values \nCompany culture can be defined as a set of shared values\, goals\, attitudes and practices that characterize an organization. The last few years have challenged the way we work and why. With the absence of four walls to encapsulate a company’s culture we must reassess what is important for the organization as well as its employees. This 45 minute session will help you to redefine your company culture so that you may attract\, retain\, and grow your organization to its fullest potential. \n– Learn how to work with stakeholders to reestablish your company mission and values \n– Using your mission and values\, determine how this shapes your true company culture \n– Discover ways for everyone in the organization to contribute and embody these philosophies \nEffective Change Communication \nEvery organization should ensure that all of its employees are receiving the same messaging in the most logical way. Communication should provide reasoning behind changes to the culture\, mission\, values\, leaderships and especially so when the news may not be positive in nature. This panel conversation will provide pragmatic advice on how to talk and communicate with everyone at your organization and how to create feedback loops that provide efficiencies and positive change. \n– Acquire practical skills to convey information \n– Create communication plans and strategies \n– Find non-traditional ways to disseminate organizational changes and updates \n  \nHuman resource professionals will obtain SHRM credit for attending the sessions. \nPanelists \nMolly Wilson\nManager\, Workplace Strategy\nHyphn \nDoug Doug Westervelt\nCEO\nPortland Internetworks \nIsaac Dixon\nAssociate Adjunct Professor\nPortland State University \nZhou Fang\nFounder and Principal EDI Practitioner\nIntersectional Group LLC \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Data\, Cyber\, & AI
DESCRIPTION:Data is precious (the new gold)\, and it needs to be protected as such. Data can also be crude (the new oil)\, and needs to be refined and curated in a secure manner into actionable information. This requires a balancing act: data that is readily accessible to the right shareholders\, while being kept secure from others. \nOn the flip side\, cybersecurity is replete with data sources that need to be collated into a holistic picture of the health of the systems being monitored. This requires a different balancing act: procure as much telemetry data as possible without getting too intrusive or overwhelmed by it. \nNow enter AI. How will new technologies effect and disrupt these existing systems? How will companies and individuals create best practices while the landscape continues to shift with little governance or oversight? \nIn this panel discussion\, our speakers will share the latest trends and how they see this space converging and where they see pitfalls. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Scismic Webinar: 30 Seconds to Sell Yourself
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an elevator pitch to help you convey your career goals at networking events? If not\, Jayne Mattson\, author and career coach can help. \nNetworking is a key component of career advancement\, whether you are actively job-seeking or not. \nThe key to successful networking is being clear about what you want so that people you interact with know how to help\, who to connect you to\, and what actions to recommend. \nYou might be asked\, “What are you looking to do next?” and you might be tempted to leave your options wide open\, so you say something generic like\, “I want a role where I can use my skills and add value to a company.” But that doesn’t give people much information to recommend anything specific. In today’s job market\, people who could connect you with employers\, and employers themselves want you to be more specific. What skills do you want to use and what value will you bring to a company? \nJayne Mattson\, Career Coach\, will help you become clearer on what you are looking for by developing a 30-second commercial that will attract attention and inspire action. \nWhether you’re a job seeker\, entrepreneur\, or simply want to improve your self-presentation skills\, this event is for you! Don’t miss this opportunity to boost your personal brand and stand out from the crowd. Join us for 30 Seconds to Sell Yourself and start mastering the art of self-promotion today! \nSign up link: https://bit.ly/30SecondsCD

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch and Learn: Startup Project Management Basics
DESCRIPTION:Project management is somewhat of a black box in startups.  When teams are small and single-focused\, there isn’t need for much more than a simple Gantt chart.  However\, as projects progress\, project management needs evolve.  Juggling design verification testing alongside clinical trial filings and clinical production/distribution\, for example\, requires a more sophisticated program level view than when it was all R&D.  As regulatory approval approaches and sales\, marketing\, manufacturing\, distribution\, supply chain\, etc. activities increase\, having dedicated project management resources makes sense.  I’ll outline how project management needs change as MedTech projects progress from concept through commercialization\, and the tools and resources required at each stage. \n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker: \nTravis Rappleye \nTravis Rappleye is a MedTech startup project management expert\, with over two decades of experience managing a variety of projects through all phases of development\, including Class II\, Class III\, combination products\, and pharmaceuticals. \nRegister Here for Virtual Lunch and Learn

DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the George Fox University College of Engineering Winter Networking Reception (formerly Winter Expo). This is not your typical career fair\, but George Fox University is not where you will find your typical engineer & computer scientists. The engineering and computer science students will meet you at a specified bistro table location with your company name on it during an informal networking reception. \nWith no booths to prepare and appetizers provided\, we hope that you and your company will find the event a convenient way to meet some highly talented students. We truly feel that we are doing something special here\, preparing the bright\, exploring minds who attend George Fox for exceptional life outcomes. We invite you to come and see for yourself. \nWe anticipate about 125 promising mechanical\, electrical\, civil\, biomedical\, and computer engineering students as well as computer science majors participating. Students interested in full-time employment and internships represent themselves with business cards and a resume. Each comes prepared for a handshake to match your company’s needs. Participating employers will be sent a list of students attending the event and details on how to access their LinkedIn and portfolios before the event. \nEmployers will have an assigned shared small bistro table (room to set up a laptop or iPad) with your company name posted. We do not have space for booths or banner set ups. Please enjoy the simplicity of this networking reception event. \nYou will have the opportunity to provide a 30 second pitch about your company (optional\, but strongly encouraged). This will begin at 5:00pm and conclude by 5:30pm for the start of the reception. \nPrivate Interviews: You will have the opportunity to invite a few students to interview with you one-on-one from 6:30pm-7:00pm in the adjacent meeting rooms. Seniors are looking for employment after graduation in early May. Juniors and Sophomores are looking for internships\, preferably during the summer\, early May through mid August unless they are part time. \nRegister HERE \nPlease RSVP by November 15\, 2023. \n
