SUMMARY:Technology Association of Oregon: Digital Health Week
DESCRIPTION:As digital health grows rapidly\, it is transforming healthcare and its potential is limitless. \nDigital health can better inform practitioners with faster access to the information they need to make decisions. It can empower patients to better manage their health through online patient portals\, by accessing lab results\, scheduling appointments\, online visits\, and much more. \nJoin the Technology Association of Oregon and our partners OTRADI\, OBI\, Link Oregon\, and OCHIN for a week of interactive discussions featuring regional thought leaders in digital health.  We’ll learn about the advancements\, people\, and organizations that are putting Oregon digital health innovations on the world map. \nREGISTER HERE \nSESSION TOPICS \nAI & DATA\nThe complexity and growth of data in healthcare means that artificial intelligence (AI) is being used more and more in this area. Many types of artificial intelligence are already used by payers\, healthcare providers\, and life sciences companies\, including diagnosis and treatment recommendations\, patient retention and compliance\, and administrative activities. This session will discuss current and future applications of AI with respect to healthcare data. \nINTERNATIONAL DIGITAL HEALTH ROUNDTABLE\nThe U.S. is not the only country with a plethora of innovative digital health companies. This session will bring together leading tech startups spanning digital health\, robotics\, security and data from Israel and around Oregon\, as well as technology leaders from major health and wellness organizations and the athletic and outdoor industry here in the Northwest. The session is organized in partnership with the Israeli Consulate\, the Israeli Chamber of Commerce\, and the Oregon Israel Business Alliance\, a TAO initiative that fosters business connections between tech companies in Oregon and Israel.  \nINNOVATION IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY MODELS\nWith the onset of COVID-19\, telehealth\, telemedicine and virtualized care have arrived. From public and preventive health to physical and mental health care\, telehealth and telemedicine are also transforming the business side of care\, for patients and healthcare practitioners. This session will facilitate a discussion about how to ensure critical healthcare services reach all of our communities\, not just the urban cluster. From economically disadvantaged communities to bridging the rural broadband divide\, the future of our region depends on affordable and ubiquitous access to healthcare services. \nPOLICY & INNOVATION\nInnovations pave the way for hospitals and health systems to evolve and truly change the way health services are delivered. However\, they are more than new technologies. Effective transformation requires formulating new policies regarding payment strategies\, care models\, data\, and social determinants of health.  This session will explore national examples of innovative policies and programs at the state and local levels and what it will take for Oregon to be a national leader in healthcare innovation.

SUMMARY:TAO Leadership Exchange Fall Series: Culture & Workplace Design
DESCRIPTION:There are many questions looming about the long-term implications of the COVID chapter on a company’s culture\, which Peter Drucker noted\, “eats strategy for breakfast.” How does working from home impact productivity\, and does that affect everyone equally? Who is allowed back in the office\, and what does that say about an organization’s culture? Can companies remain in a hybrid model and how does that affect access to amenities\, support and career advancement? \nJoin the Technology Association of Oregon (TAO) and JLL Thursday\, November 12th at 9:00 AM for this executive-only session to discuss how to design your workplace and preserve culture as we work from home and return to work. In addition to a short presentation\, this will be a facilitated roundtable intended for leaders to share plans in a private space. Please note\, this session will not be recorded and we are happy to connect you to the JLL team if you are unable to attend. \nAt the end of this session participants will be able to analyze their own company’s culture and workplace design to determine where to begin\, what to change\, and how to help.

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Market Research Deep Dive
DESCRIPTION:When we talk about market research\, we seek to understand our customer’s needs or preferences to better frame our product or customer acquisition activities. In healthcare\, however\, the simple question “who’s your customer” is often times not as simple as it may seem. Is it the patient that received benefit from your product? The physician that prescribed or used your product? The payer that paid for your product? \nIn this session we’ll explore the complexities of selling into the US health system and discuss the role of a customer\, a user and a buyer. One is not necessarily more important than the other\, but it’s critical to understand the difference. Let’s do a deep dive to find out.  REGISTER HERE \nPlease note: This Lunch & Learn is a virtual event\, using Zoom Meeting. After registration\, you will receive emailed instructions for joining the meeting. This program will be recorded. \nAbout the Speaker – Michael McGarry: \nMr. McGarry is the Founder and President of Forvida\, a customer focused consulting firm passionate about developing health solutions that engage individuals and make health an every day event. He launched Forvida in 2015 with over 20 years experience in the health care industry developing innovative programs and medical devices from prototype through FDA approval within small start-up organizations and Fortune 500 medical companies. Prior to founding Forvida\, Mr. McGarry worked as the Director\, Innovations Accelerator Team\, at Ascension\, the largest non-profit health care provider in the United States with facilities in 26 states\, 150\,000+ associates\, and approximately 18 million patient visits annually. In this role\, Mr. McGarry was responsible for the evaluation of technologies and development of new business models focusing on how to meet health-related needs in the future in a way that extends beyond hospitals and clinics. Previously\, Mr. McGarry managed the design\, development and launch of a custom remote patient monitoring system for Alere Medical to improve care for patients with chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure\, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes. Mr. McGarry has been responsible for the design\, development and clinical evaluation of numerous therapeutic cardiovascular products and directed physician training for and market evaluation of products in both the U.S. and Europe. Mr. McGarry has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University\, a MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and has several published patents and publications. \nThank you to Commerce Bank for sponsoring this event. \nThis program is organized by OBI/OTRADI and OHSU-OCTRI as part of the INVENT Seminar Series. The INVENT Seminar Series hosts experts from the regional life science community to introduce fundamental principles of commercialization and entrepreneurship. This event aims to inspire and guide innovations from the university to the market\, offer skill-building opportunities\, develop a broad awareness of the commercialization pathway\, and create robust networking opportunities.

SUMMARY:TAO Lunch & Learn: Strategic Plan for Exit
DESCRIPTION:WHAT YOU WILL LEARN \nIt may seem counter intuitive for a business owner to develop an exit strategy\, but it’s very important to consider a plan even if you do not intend to sell your company immediately. \nBy having a well-defined exit plan\, you will also have a clear goal\, and significant influence on your strategic decisions moving forward. \nBut is it created transparently or does it need to remain a secret? \nOn Wednesday\, October 28th\,  join the Technology Association of Oregon and Carl Cox of 40 Strategy at Wacom Experience Center from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm for a conversation about creating a Strategic Plan with the transparent view and the quiet approach. \nThere will be similarities between each respective plan but attendees will have the chance to identify the one that will create the biggest value driver depending on their direction.
