SUMMARY:Celebrate PRIDE with TAO
DESCRIPTION:PRIDE COMMUNITY\nTAO’s Pride Community provides professional development\, networking\, and mentorship opportunities for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies across Oregon’s technology & tech adjacent sector. \nCelebrate PRIDE\nWe are SO excited to be hosting our community’s premiere event of 2021 during Pride Month! \nJoin TAO\, our LGBTQIA+ community\, community allies\, and our fabulous sponsors at Extensis on Wednesday\, June 30th at 4 pm for an afternoon of celebration\, connection\, and fun. We will be starting things off with “We Were There\,” a special virtual tour of the Met by Prof. Andrew Lear. Afterwards we will meet our community co-chairs and get to know fellow community members. \nWe Were There\nDid you know that there was a female pharaoh of Egypt as early as the 15th century BC\, and that the Met has an entire gallery of statues of her?  Did you know that the Roman Emperor Hadrian had a male lover whom\, when he drowned\, Hadrian declared a god?  The Met has a bust of him as well\, right next to its bust of Hadrian!  Did you know that the Met has an important statue by the first major black gay artist in New York?  That the museum’s 2nd largest painting contains a portrait of a lesbian artist of 19th century Paris\, dressed (as she often was) in men’s clothing? \nWell\, if you didn’t know\, it’s not surprising\, because history\, art history\, museums—they are all presented to us as if they were of\, by\, and for white\, straight\, cis-gender men.  But it isn’t true at all.  We were there all along!  That is\, our history and the art that embodies it are full of works by and about people of diverse gender and sexual identities.  And this is the tour where you will find out about it\, discovering a hidden history of human diversity in the masterpieces of the Metropolitan! \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:ULP Event: OC LIFe - Accelerators: The Inside Story from the Graduates
DESCRIPTION:Y Combinator graduates will share their accelerator experiences and challenges. \n“To be\, or not to be” a startup accelerator alumni. This is a question that often co-founders end up discussing during the early days of the startup journey. The recent graduates of Y Combinator and MedTech Innovator will share their accelerator experiences and give you an insider’s perspective. Come get your questions answered. \nAccelerators provide funding\, expertise\, resources\, and accountability to their startups. One of the most renowned accelerators is Y Combinator (or “YC” as it is frequently called). YC selects a group of startups known as a “cohort\,” invests $125\,000 in each in exchange for equity\, and takes them through an intensive 3-month program culminating in “demo day\,” when hopefully they will impress other investors who will fund them. YC has served as a model for many other accelerators\, such that the general model is the same across many industries: Competitive application process\, investment in exchange for equity\, intensive program involving mentorship and networking\, and a demo day or similar final event. Many other accelerators follow the model that YC pioneered. They select a predetermined number of startups for each cohort and provide them with cash in exchange for equity. The details of each accelerator’s program will differ\, but the goal is to “accelerate” the speed at which the company progresses. \nThe audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panel members. \nRegister here.
