SUMMARY:OSU Advantage Accelerator Webinar: SBIR/STTR Success Tips for Startups
DESCRIPTION:As all entrepreneurs know\, startups need cash\, and it’s not always each to come by. Also known as America’s Seed Fund\, The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs provide a combined total of over $4 billion in early stage\, non-dilutive funding for America’s entrepreneurs each year! Additionally\, these awards are either grants or contracts (not loans or investment)\, which means that you as the entrepreneur don’t have to give up any equity or repay the funds so long as you complete the work in your grant. At this point you probably have questions and are wondering how to get your hands on one of these awards—this is where the OSU Advantage Accelerator can help! Register now for our February speaker series event where you’ll have the opportunity to ask an SBIR/STTR expert about application logistics\, common pitfalls\, and other advice to help make your SBIR/STTR proposal more competitive. \nJoin us on Monday\, February 28th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. for a conversation with Leon Wolf\, SBIR/STTR assistance coordinator at VertueLab. You’ll get to hear us ask Leon some important questions about the SBIR/STTR application process\, as well as have a chance to ask him your own questions during our audience Q&A. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Loopr AI: Break the Bias in Startups
DESCRIPTION:As part of International Women’s Day\, Loopr AI\, is organizing a webinar titled “Break the Bias in Startups” \nStartups are responsible for the biggest wealth re-distribution in the last 100 years. Yet\, women are largely locked out of the biggest startup success stories. 7 of the wealthiest 10 people in the world are startup founders but no woman features on the list. In 2021\, only 2.3% of entrepreneurs globally who raised VC funding were women. More closely\, none of the Greater Seattle Unicorns is women-led. \nJoin us on 22nd March 2022 to explore the reasons behind the disparity and find ways to collectively help bridge the gap and bring women entrepreneurs to an equal footing. \nThe Guest Speakers of this event are: \nSharan Hildebrand – Vice President Strategic Alliances North America\, Hitachi Solutions\nSurabhi Rathore – CEO & Co-founder\, Symbl.ai\nLilia Shirman – CEO\, The Shirman Group\nAravinda Gollapudi – Technology & Strategic Operations Executive\, Sage \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:OregonBio - Need to Speed: Manufacturing ATMP Products
DESCRIPTION:Need to Speed is the name of the game when building a facility to manufacture ATMP products. With a heavy focus on an accelerated schedule and getting your product faster to market this brings unique risks. Converting some project risk factors into success factors could change your whole dynamic and lead to a effective facility start-up. First\, there does not need to be a trade-off between cost\, schedule\, and quality\, if your team understands how to deliver quality right first. There are five (5) risks to a facility start up project. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Vertue Lab & Women in Science PDX: Badass Women Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:Badass women who have turned their science into successful business ventures and the funding resources that have supported them and others. \nVertueLab and Women in Science PDX are celebrating the fifth year of Badass Women Entrepreneurs! \nThis annual event spotlights badass women with badass science startups. The event convenes movers and shakers with different types of businesses\, different science backgrounds from low to high tech\, and non-traditional funding and support expertise. \nWe’ll dive into their journeys\, learn about their career path\, challenges\, triumphs\, and the resources they couldn’t do without. We want to inspire and empower you to innovate\, to brave the entrepreneur journey\, and connect you with other women science-badasses\, allies and local companies\, partners\, and mentors who can help launch an idea into the market. \nMore about the event …\nIn the first part of this event\, our moderator\, Kim Zou of ClimateTech VC\, will lead us through the exploration of how these badass women have taken their innovative ideas\, rooted in science and tech\, from just an idea to a fully implemented business. \nThese badass women entrepreneurs will share: \nTheir journey and insights\, including when their business or tech idea originated\nTheir first steps to the formation of their company\nEarly funding pathways including private investment and federal grants\nNavigating partnership legalities\nValuable resources\nReflections on challenges they have overcome\nDuring part two of this event\, we will be joined by another panel of professionals who will elaborate on the startup funding pathways and resources mentioned by our badass women entrepreneurs\, along with information very specific to their funding resources. \nThen stick around for SPEED NETWORKING. This will be several 3-minute breakouts where you’ll get the chance to connect with panelists and attendees. This session is introvert-friendly ~ short and sweet. Long enough to make a connection\, but often not long enough to get into too much depth. But that’s where you can follow up for a virtual coffee or whatnot. Be sure to exchange LinkedIn profile info! \nYou should come to the event if…\nYou’re an aspiring/current entrepreneur looking for inspiration\, knowledge\, and connections\nYou’re an investor interested in learning about innovative companies led by badass founders\nYou’re a professional or student looking to connect with entrepreneurs and build community\nYou’re a technologist/innovators interested in learning more about the funding resources available to grow your technology/business\nYou’re a service provider or are involved in support programs for startups/early innovators and want to connect with the guests and panelists\n  \nA note on inclusivity:\nWe use the words ‘women/woman’ in an expansive and inclusive way to include any persons that identify with the word. \nWe recognize that patriarchal systems of oppression have perpetrated disproportionate inequities on anyone who is not societally perceived as a cis-man. \nIn the entrepreneur\, tech\, and investment sectors it is our goal to create a safe and inclusive event and community where folks facing this systemic oppression can gain connections\, share resources\, and build relationships with others in this space. \nWe recognize that gender is a broad and beautiful spectrum and we aim to celebrate everyone on this spectrum. We invite allies and accomplices to join us. \nAccessibility:\nThis event will be held on a Zoom meeting\, with closed captions available. If you need additional assistance or specific accommodations\, we are happy to provide these. SUMMARY:OBI Hybrid Lunch & Learn: Demystifying Commercial Real Estate Leasing
DESCRIPTION:This event is in-person for a limited number of attendees at beautiful CBRE in downtown Portland & also livestreamed on Zoom. View replay here. \nAbout this event\nNurturing your business in the confines of an incubator like OBI/OTRADI means you haven’t had to worry much about a traditional commercial real estate lease with a conventional landlord. But many of you will come to a point where you outgrow OBI and need to find your own lab and/or office space. But when do you start those conversations and how does it all work? This session is designed to demystify the leasing process and shed some light on the sometimes opaque and jargon-filled industry that is commercial real estate. Topics covered include: \n\nOverview of the commercial real estate landscape in the Greater Portland Region\nWhat can a tenant representative commercial real estate broker do for you?\nOverview of the entire process\, start to finish\, from contemplating a move to move-in day.\nWhat can you expect to pay? What’s the difference between a NNN and FSG rental rate?\nYou need a lab with venting hoods plus special plumbing for equipment: what might that add to the buildout / tenant improvement cost and who will pay?\nWhat are the various fees involved and who pays who?\n\nOne of OBI’s most prominent graduates is Sean McClain of Absci. Come hear from Kristin Hammond and Ajay Malhotra from CBRE Portland\, who Sean personally selected to represent Absci in the search for their new 78\,000 square foot headquarters in Vancouver. Kristin and Ajay\, three-time winners of the independent Oregon-Washington Commercial Association of Brokers Top Office Team of the Year\, will use their work with the Absci executive team as a case study to illuminate every step of the process and answer any questions you may have. \nAbout the Speakers:\nKristin Hammond \nKristin is a Senior Vice President in the Portland\, Oregon office of CBRE. She has over 20 years of experience working with leading firms in technology\, life sciences/healthcare\, education\, utilities\, financial services\, food/beverage manufacturing and supply chain logistics. She advises companies ranging from start-up to publicly-traded\, multi-national conglomerates. Her strategic guidance on requirements from major relocations\, build-to-suit construction and economic incentive driven opportunities has made her a “go-to” advisor in the region. Kristin has distinguished herself as a knowledgeable professional who can deliver the ideal work environment for clients. \nSome of her notable transactions in the area including Oregon State University’s 40\,000 SF downtown Portland career center; 77\,000 SF HQ for life sciences firm AbSci in Vancouver WA; 836\,000 SF of warehouse space across the U.S. for OIA Global; 80\,000 SF of relocation and expansion of a search engine firm in downtown Portland; and a major build-to-suit expansion of 195\,000 SF for a semiconductor provider in Hillsboro\, Oregon. \nAjay Malhotra \nAs a First Vice President at CBRE\, the global market and brand leader in real estate services\, Ajay serves companies with interests in Portland with custom tailored real estate solutions. \nAjay specializes in representing local\, national and international tenants who require services such as: \nOffice & Industrial Real Estate Brokerage Services\nLabor Analytics and Economic Incentives\nProject Management Services\nDatacenter Solutions\nWorkplace Strategy\nWith over 22 years of industry experience in high technology and renewable energy\, Ajay is a deep domain expert and brings a unique perspective when crafting real estate solutions with pertinent\, compelling advantages for his clients. \nAs a former senior executive at global brands\, Intel Corporation and Cadence Design Systems\, Ajay “worked on the inside” at large\, publicly traded companies and has a keen appreciation for the myriad drivers of corporate strategy\, talent recruitment and retention\, hardware and software development and domestic and international growth. \nAjay also had lead roles at startups in business analytics software and clean tech in both Oregon and California. As a result\, he comprehends the dynamics – and real estate requirements – of venture capital backed Silicon Forest and Silicon Valley startups seeking stability and sustainable growth as they expand their operations and footprint. \nDuring his own career\, Ajay has had extensive experience conducting business\, managing and growing organizations not only in USA\, but also across Europe and Asia\, especially in the UK\, Germany\, France\, Italy\, Spain and also China / Taiwan\, Japan\, and India. This multi-cultural fluency enables Ajay to be an effective partner to companies whose business interests transcend borders. \nEstablished and younger growth companies seeking a strategic\, informed approach to their real estate needs will enjoy working with Ajay to strategize a real estate plan consistent with their corporate strategy. \nThank you to our sponsor and host\, CBRE. \nCBRE’s Portland\, Oregon office has been serving clients since 1972\, becoming a dominant player in the Portland commercial real estate market.
