SUMMARY:TAO Event: Strategic Plan for Exit
DESCRIPTION:WHAT YOU WILL LEARN \nIt may seem counter intuitive for a business owner to develop an exit strategy\, but it’s very important to consider a plan even if you do not intend to sell your company immediately. \nBy having a well-defined exit plan\, you will also have a clear goal\, and significant influence on your strategic decisions moving forward. \nBut is it created transparently or does it need to remain a secret? \nOn Thursday\, January 28th\,  join the Technology Association of Oregon and Carl Cox of 40 Strategy from 11:30 am-1:00 pm for a conversation about creating a Strategic Plan with the transparent view and the quiet approach. \nThere will be similarities between each respective plan but attendees will have the chance to identify the one that will create the biggest value driver depending on their direction.

SUMMARY:TAO Discussion: Data Privacy in 2021
DESCRIPTION:DATA PRIVACY IN 2021\nTAO invites you to join us for a panel discussion moderated by Leila Javanshir\, certified information privacy expert professional and associate of Miller\, Nash\, Graham & Dunn on Thursday\, January 28th at 9:00 AM. Joined by a panel of cybersecurity experts from across the state of Oregon\, Leila will lead a discussion on a variety of topics related to data privacy\, including where the tech ecosystem is looking to improve data privacy in the future. Time permitting we will also host an audience Q&A towards the close of the day’s event. Unanswered questions\, or questions requiring additional research\, may be answered at a later date. \nWHAT WILL YOU LEARN\nParticipants will be well versed on a variety of trending topics related to data privacy to provide a jumping-off point for creating or improving their organization’s data privacy practices. \nDATA PRIVACY DAY\nLed by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA)\, Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. Observed annually on January 28\, Data Protection Day commemorates the Jan. 28\, 1981\, signing of Convention 108\, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. \nEach year\, data breaches continue to grow in size and scope – exposing consumer’s private data and valuable business information assets. Against this backdrop\, Data Privacy Day helps spread awareness about privacy and educates citizens on how to secure their personal information. It also works to encourage businesses to be more transparent about how they collect and use data.

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: Best Practices in Medical Device Software and Firmware Design
DESCRIPTION:Missed it? Watch the recording of this program on our YouTube Channel. \nAre you developing a medical device with software or firmware? If you plan on submitting your device to the FDA\, there are specific regulatory requirements that must be met to ensure acceptance. In this webinar\, you will learn the best practices for software and firmware development in a regulated field like medical devices. In the medical device industry\, ISO 13485 defines requirements for a quality management system that demonstrates the ability to create medical devices that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Because of the inherent complexity of software systems\, software development has become more tightly controlled than hardware in regulatory environments. Thus\, standards have emerged to guide this process specifically for software. Under ISO 13485\, medical devices containing software or firmware must be developed according to IEC 62304. \nThe processes put forth by IEC 62304 are established best practices in the software industry\, most of which can be followed for both medical and non-medical projects. The activities described in the standard fit neatly into many phase-based product development approaches. This talk will focus on a phase-based product development approach that meets these standards through planning\, risk management\, architecture\, detailed design\, and verification. \nMissed it? Watch the recording of this program on our YouTube Channel. \nThis Lunch & Learn is a virtual event\, using Zoom Meeting. After registration\, you will receive emailed instructions for joining the meeting. Grab your lunch in the comfort of your home or office\, and join us online! \nPlease note: This program will be recorded. \nSpeakers: Dorota Shortell and Katie Elliott from Simplexity. \nThank you to Simplexity for sponsoring this event!

SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in R&D
DESCRIPTION:The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in R&D\, or… How to Solve Big Problems Fast and Cheap. \nRegister here \nHere’s the question: Would you rather be like the Wright Brothers\, who cracked the code of flight in three years for $3000\, or Langley\, head of the Smithsonian\, who spent 25 times more and launched an airplane with great fanfare straight into the Potomac? Years ago I wanted to know what led the Wright Brothers to their success\, and it turns out it’s not because they are geniuses\, and not because it was inevitable with the advent of motors\, but because they had developed a methodology that was a radical shift from what came before. \nThe 19th century method was to rely on the power of one’s mind to divine a solution. It is slow\, expensive\, and only sporadically yields results. The Wright methodology dependably\, and in a finite amount of time for as little money as is possible\, yields seemingly amazing results. Rather\, the results are amazing\, but it tends to appear that the inventor is amazing. The methodology allows results to emerge naturally. In its essence\, the method presumes an answer exists\, and serves as a navigational aide to get through the uncharted waters of from here to there. \nIn this talk I will outline the 7 habits that lead to solving big problems fast and cheap. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Grupp—or “Cosmo” as he is universally known as—is a successful entrepreneur and inventor. He has a PhD in nanotechnology physics from U. Penn\, and applies those skills to medical devices. He is three-for-three in inventions he has worked on in startups that have come to market. While he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford\, he started a company whose transistor is now in the iPhone. He invented Procept Biorobotics’ tissue resection method that is now used clinically for BPH with near-zero risk of nerve damage. Locally\, he was the first employee and VP of R&D at Hemex Health\, an OTRADI startup. He developed Hemex’s malaria diagnostic which is now on the market in India and is poised to save millions of kids’ lives. Currently\, he runs Grupp Works\, a medical device innovation consultancy\, where he has spun off LifeAir\, which has developed the first ventilator that eliminates the risk of patient-patient viral transmission. He has two sons still in grade school\, who he helped develop and produce their first product for their own company Two Brothers Toys\, which sold out at Oodles in Sellwood.
