DESCRIPTION:The Bend Venture Conference\, hosted by EDCO\, is the largest Angel Conference in the Pacific Northwest.\nOctober 18-19\, 2018\nLast year\, over 600 attendees\, 50 prominent investors\, and over 70 companies joined us for a celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation. Investments\, awards\, and prizes of over $1.83 million opened the opportunity for multiple winners at the 2017 conference! \nThe 2018 Bend Venture Conference will feature three competition categories: Early Stage\, Growth Stage\, and Impact with five finalists (companies) selected in each category. \nGrowth Stage Competition – this category is open to companies that have a proven concept\, have generated initial revenues and are prepared to scale quickly with investment. Companies can be located anywhere in the U.S.\nEarly Stage Competition – this category is open to companies that have a great idea and are close to “proof of concept.” They are pre-revenue (or very early) and are in the process of testing their product in the market. Companies can be located anywhere in the U.S.\nImpact Competition – this category includes for-profit companies\, whose business models are integrated with a mission to have a significant and measurable social or environmental impact. Companies should be aiming to generate long-term enterprise value and attractive returns on capital. Companies can be located anywhere in the U.S.\nThe Bend Venture Fund\, LLC is a private investment vehicle established annually to help finance the most promising business startups emerging from the event each year. Participation in the fund is by invitation only and limited to accredited investors. In 2017\, the fund raised over $210K\, allocating $110K to LeadMethod and $100K to Handful. The BVC Social Impact Fund LLC awarded over $110K to Green Theme International. (An additional $1.51 million in funds were committed to finalists from other institutional and private sources).

DESCRIPTION:Following a proven design process reduces risk in the design of medical devices\nRegister Now \nNo matter where you are in the design of your medical product\, it is beneficial to follow a proven design process to reduce risk and have the proper documentation in place for FDA submittal. \nDuring this Lunch & Learn\, Simplexity Product Development CEO Dorota Shortell and biomedical engineer and Director of Business Development Scott Jarnagin will walk through the steps of a typical design process for a medical device compared to non-regulated devices. Common steps of the design process will be discussed: initial concept\, developing a product architecture\, building prototypes\, and iterating the design to be ready for manufacturing release. Case studies of devices and products that Simplexity engineers have designed will be explored\, from medical instruments and wearables to high volume consumer products. By the end of the discussion it will be clear to the audience how the development of non-regulared devices and ISO-13485 controlled medical devices differ\, and which steps they have in common.
