Under the direction of the Dean of the Academic & Career Pathway for Sciences, Computing, and Engineering, the Program Dean of Life Sciences and Bioscience Technology is responsible for direct oversight of College-wide educational disciplines, programs, and services within one or more of the College’s integrated academic, career, and workforce programs. The position oversees and leads multiple instructional disciplines, programs, and services to provide strong holistic learning opportunities and equitable educational/career student outcomes; emphasizes excellence in teaching and learning; promotes culturally responsive curriculum and program development; engages with industry/workforce; and supports full- and part-time faculty and academic affairs staff to ensure equitable opportunity and academic goal attainment for students. The incumbent serves as a key College contact for internal and external College partners to ensure alignment of curriculum to community needs.
The college is seeking a bold transformational leader who will effectively navigate a large unionized, multi-campus environment during a time of organizational change. Under the direction of the Dean of Academic & Career Pathways for Sciences, Computing, and Engineering the Program Dean of Life Sciences and Bioscience Technology will lead a team of department chairs, faculty, and staff to provide integrated delivery of precollege, gateway, and transfer courses in Biology, Bioscience Technology, and Environmental Studies. This leader will be expected to incorporate higher education and community college best practices into the practices of the administrative area. The successful candidate will have direct experience and strong knowledge of best practices in implementing initiatives to address equity and opportunity gaps in the life sciences.
This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating equitable student success in career technical education (CTE), prerequisite, and transfer life sciences courses. The position provides an exciting opportunity for a strategic, collaborative, and visionary leader. The official responsibilities are to be accountable for providing broad administrative direction and leadership in the development, expansion/contraction, revision, improvement, and maintenance of a quality education program. An extremely important part of this role at PCC is to bring to the administration, faculty, and staff of this program an equity-driven and student-centered passion for learning. Meaningful collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrators is all part of the regular work.
