Please join us for a Lunch & Learn presentation on the utilization of value assessments in determining clinical and cost effectiveness. These frameworks are used to assess the value of prescription drugs and can influence coverage, drug utilization management and reimbursement.

Hear more about how policymakers and payers rely on traditional value assessment frameworks and the need for development and use of innovative methods that are rigorous, transparent, and nondiscriminatory to better address the needs of all health care stakeholders, including patients, payers and providers.

About the Speakers: Amy M. Miller, PhD and Sara van Geertruyden, JD

Amy M. Miller, PhD, is President of the PhRMA Foundation, a leading nonprofit that funds foundational scientific research advancing novel therapeutics and value-driven health care. Dr. Miller previously served as President and CEO of the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and Executive Vice President at the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC). Dr. Miller also worked in the office of the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health and served as a policy adviser to Sen. Jay Rockefeller. She began her career as a researcher at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans and a PhD from the University of Connecticut.

Sara van Geertruyden serves as the Executive Director of the Partnership to Improve Patient Care (PIPC), a diverse group of healthcare organizations representing patients, healthcare providers, researchers and innovators, and other groups to promote comparative effectiveness research that supports patient access, informed healthcare decision-making and continued medical progress. In this role, she is responsible for assuring that the voice of PIPC’s members is heard by those implementing CER programs. She came to PIPC as a healthcare and welfare policy expert with 14 years of experience. Previously, she worked for former Senator John Breaux from 1996-2003. In 2003, she joined the healthcare policy group at Patton Boggs LLP, and in 2011 she joined Thorn Run Partners. She received a BA from Wake Forest University and a JD from Catholic University.
